  3. Wow!! What an amazing job you have done here! I think this is such a great topic to discuss because there is so much to explore within it! I have some real strong feelings around this subject as well because I have gay friends and I have such a hard time hearing people talk ignorantly about the gay community. I think that we have come a long way in how we view the gay community, but I think there is a long way to still go. I think that the younger generations are more open to the idea of a person being gay for a few different reasons... maybe an idea to blog about?? I expecially loved the fact that you put in some stuff about how the American indian tribes viewed those of a 3rd gender. Very interesting and great job!!

  4. The concept for this blog is great! I think the issue of sexual orientation isn't always looked at enough with people start talking about diversity issues. To answer some of the questions that were asked like, how does it make me feel when someone uses terms like "fag". To be honest the people I hear using terms like that the most are gay. For example. One of my best freinds is gay and he uses the word "fag" to describe other gay men who seem to him "girly". I think his use of the word makes it "ok" in other people's eyes to use the word too.

  5. I agree with Diana. I think the younger generations are more accepting of this population. Perhaps that is more geographical as well?? I think maybe it is more accepted in some areas than in others? Does anyone know if that is true?

  6. I also agree that the youth are growing up at a time when the gay and lesbian population is becoming more accepted. Growing up with this being accepted allows for the Youth to help society "grow out" of the feelings they have towards the gay and lesbian community. I see a resemblance to my younger years. When I started in school there was one African American boy in my classes. i grew up with him and one day brought him to my Grandmothers with me. She was not impressed to say the least and afterward told me that it was not okay. Bless her heart she is a great woman but was raised in that mentality. I of course ignored her ways of thinking. he still hung out at my house and my parents loved him. As is grew up more and more elasticities joined the school system I was in. It never phased me. I think the youth at the time when a certain population is being accepted more freely is more apt to embrace the change then the older individuals that are stuck in their ways. Of course all of the above statement does not apply to everyone. There are some young racist individuals and some older individuals that are not racist.

When it comes to the gay and lesbian population my Memere is not as accepting due to her Christian values where some of the younger generations are protesting for change and acceptance. In my opinion it is greatly generational.

Also Cindy I think that the geographical local may have a great deal to do with it as well. I would be interested to see more on this!

  7. I love your blog and all the information, it is very important for people to learn about this cause and stop speculating and assuming. I am seeing less homophobia but it still persists. Now people straight and gay can speak out without fear. As far as the military goes, I don't know why there should be discrimination of those who want to serve our country. We should be thanking them!!!!!!

  8. I think your blog looks really nice and creative. I read somewhere in you blog that some people think homosexuality is a way of living that someone chooses. I definitely disagree 100 percent. I don't know why anyone would choose to be gay when there are so many who don't accept that lifestyle. Why would someone choose to have negative attention thrown at them everyday? I think homosexuality is something people are born with.
